Database Purpose

The Pontchartrain Basin Funding and Financing Database helps communities identify funding and financing opportunities that match their project goals and priorities.

Instead of sorting through long lists of programs, users can search by what they are trying to achieve, such as improving water quality, meeting regulatory requirements, reducing critical infrastructure risk, or restoring natural systems. Each opportunity also includes clear details to help users decide which options are the best fit for their system, community, and project stage.

How to Use the Database

Start by using the filter and search tools to identify opportunities that align with your project drivers and goals (the reasons why you’re seeking funding) to easily see which grants and loans will help you meet those needs. Begin by selecting the project driver that best identifies the key factor or challenge that motivated you to seek project funding. The project driver filter options are “Water Quality Impairments,” “Wetlands Loss,” “Property Damage,” and “Infrastructure Challenges”. Next, filter by your project goals by selecting one of the following options: “Economic Development”, “Community Awareness & Engagement”, “Safe and Reliable Infrastructure”, “Improve Recreation Amenities”, and “Watershed Health”.

To further refine your search, use the additional filters, including:

  • Eligible Entities (Local governments, Federally Recognized Tribes, State governments, Residents, NGO’s, Utilities, Small Businesses, Educational Institutions, Other)
  • Program Focus (Drinking water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Watershed health)
  • Project Type (Construction or Implementation, Planning & Design, Operations & Maintenance, Technical Assistance)
  • Funding Type (Grant or Loan)
  • Funding Status (Rolling, Rolling – Open, Currently Closed, Unknown Status)

Applying multiple filters at once can help zero in on the most relevant opportunities for your project.

Next Steps After Finding an Opportunity

Once you identify a promising opportunity, consider the following actions:

  • Contact the program administrator: Reach out early with questions about eligibility, timing, or project fit to help determine if this opportunity is the best fit.
  • Request support from the Working Group: The Pontchartrain Basin Working Group can help communities navigate funding options, including walking through this tool.
  • Connect with technical assistance providers: TA providers can help refine project concepts, strengthen applications, and support implementation. Each opportunity includes TA providers who may be a good fit for assistance with project guidance and application submission.
